Introducing The Dental Group's new Chief Operating Officer

We are pleased to introduce Dr Prashant Kalyan as the new Chief Operating Officer, Clinical Director and Director of The Dental Group.  

Prashant brings a wealth of experience and expertise in Senior Healthcare Management, Healthcare Mergers and Acquisitions, and Clinical Development, Supervision, Data Management, Clinical Monitoring, Clinical Operations and Clinical Governance to The Dental Group.

He will be focussing and supporting the development, and management of The Dental Group and this will include areas such as the acquisition, establishment, integration and ongoing monitoring of individual dental practices for optimisation.  Prashant will also assist with procurement, overseeing clinical recruitment and providing clinical support to the network as required, including support to ensure compliance with dental regulations and health and safety legislations being met.

Prashant is a former dental practice owner and most recently his role was as a Clinical Advisor of Abano Healthcare (Lumino The Dentists, Maven Dental Group, 1300Smiles and Bupa Dental NZ) in a Trans-Tasman role.  His key roles were to provide clinical guidance supporting the Finance, HR, IT, Marketing, Procurement, and Operations arms of the business and being closely involved in the ongoing Mergers & Acquisitions of practices, most recently leading the clinical due diligence in acquiring Bupa Dental NZ.

For the clinical network, Prashant offered clinical advice and mentorship across the dental practices and was a Clinical Advisory Board member. Additionally, he  maintained key stakeholder relationships with the DCNZ, the NZDA, The MOH, oversight and governance of DHB contracted practices, the AUT Oral Health Faculty and both the Auckland and Otago Dental Faculty’s.

Prashant obtained a BDS at the University of Otago in 1993 and he also holds an MBA from Otago (2003). Prashant attended and completed the Senior Executive Programme at the prestigious Harvard Business School in 2019, specifically focussed on the “Strategy for Delivery of HealthCare”.

Prior to joining the Abano Healthcare Group, Prashant held positions as a clinician at various dental practices and was a Director of the QualityCare Dental Group and the First Aid Supply Team.

Prashant is a member of the NZDA, Auckland Dental Association, a former mentor with the NZDA Mentorship Programme and current mentor for clinicians with the DCNZ.
